Climbing

Climbing is an increasingly popular activity in the area. Active at Altitude gives you a central base from which to explore the Flatirons and the Continental Divide. In the high country of the Rocky Mountain National Park, there are more than 10 named peaks at more than 10,000 feet above sea level. You would need to stay for some time to climb them all! Of course, once you reach the summit of any of these peaks, the views become even more spectacular, especially on a clear, sunny day. (Ideal position for a small digital camera that can slip into a pocket!)

Climbing can be dangerous – always check the weather forecast for the area before heading out. Afternoon storms can develop quickly, so make sure you are below the tree-line in a lightning storm. Also make sure that someone knows your planned route before you go out – carry enough food, and most importantly, water, to fuel and hydrate you through your planned trip.
